Ottawa County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The mission of the Ottawa County Jail is to maintain the safety of inmates, employees, and residents of the county. The County Jail Administration Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. The following programs are available to inmates in the Ottawa County Jail: GED, New Beginnings Program, Pathways to Purpose, Thinking for a Change, Every Man a Warrior, and Substance Use Disorder Programs. The aim of these programs is to assist inmates in becoming upstanding citizens when they depart the jail. There is an inmate lookup function available on the Sheriff’s website, however, it does not include mugshots of arrested offenders.

How to Send Mail or Package

The Ottawa County Jail collaborates with Smart Communications to send letters and photos electronically through their MailGuard system. Personal mail sent to the jail will be returned to the sender. If family friends wish to send mail to an inmate it must be done through the MailGuard system. Legal mail may be sent directly to the inmate at the jail. Family and friends have the option to send cash or money orders to inmates through the mail. To deposit money online, family and friends may visit www.smartinmate.com. Funds may also be deposited over the phone using either the live or automated system. There is also a kiosk available in the jail lobby in which inmates may deposit fund in-person.

Visitation Hours

The Ottawa County Jail offers in-person and remote visits. Visits can be scheduled by calling the Sheriff’s Office or online at the Sheriff’s website. Visitors must schedule the appointment 24 hours in advance. Inmates are allowed a maximum of two adults and two children per visit. Each inmate is permitted one 45 minute visit per week. To arrange an online visit, family and friends may use the platform at www.smartjailmail.com. The user must first create an account, then add the inmate they wish to visit to their contacts.

Additional Jail Information

The Ottawa County Jail has an inmate lookup page that enables the user to search for inmates using either their first name, last name, booking date, or gender. When an inmate is looked up, the webpage will display their personal characteristics such as eye color, hair color, height, weight, and gender. The inmates booking number and booking date are also made available. There is an option to view the inmate’s charges as well as visitation status.

Ottawa County Public Records Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) allows all persons access to records of government bodies; this includes information on the affairs of the government and its employees. To submit an FOIA request online with the Ottawa Sheriff’s Office, one must first create an account on the Sheriff’s website. All requests must be orchestrated by the FOIA coordinator. Written requests may be submitted via mail, fax,or other electronic transmission. The person submitting an FOIA request will assume a fee dependent upon the labor costs and material costs required to obtain and transmit the record. The Sheriff’s Office will issue a response to the request within 5 business days of receiving the response. Each request must contain a sufficient description of the incident one seeking to obtain record of.
