Arenac County Sheriff Information

The Arenac County Sheriff’s Department maintains the county jail. The current Sheriff is Jim Mosciski. Sheriff Mosciski works to meet Michigan Department of Corrections standards at the jail while also maintaining minimal operations costs. Sheriff deputies work in the County Road patrol and Secondary Road Patrol, Sing Narcotics, and the School Resource Program.

Arenac County is in central Michigan and has an area of 681 square miles, only half of which is land. It is the third-smallest Michigan county by land area. The population is 15,089, according to the 2020 US Census. The county seat and largest city is Standish, which is about 5 miles from the Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron.

Requests for public records may be submitted to any County officer or employee, who will then forward the request to the Arenac County Clerk, who is also the Freedom of Information (FOIA) Coordinator. All requests must describe the desired records in detail, including names, dates, incident numbers, and any other available information that would assist the County Clerk in locating the record.
