Oceana County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Oceana County Jail currently has a 66 bed capacity. The Jail is located in downtown Hart, and employs certified corrections officers to oversee inmates. The goal of the facility is to ensure the safety of inmates, employees, and residents of the county. The jail seeks to provide humane living conditions and uphold the Constitutional rights of those incarcerated. Mugshots are not available for arrested offenders.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates may send or receive mail by postcard only. Any mail sent in non-postcard form will be mailed back to the sender or discarded. Inmates are permitted one form of publication during their incarceration. To deposit money onto an inmate’s account, family and friends can send money through www.expressaccount.com. Individuals also have the ability to deposit money using the kiosk in the Sheriff’s Office, which is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. There is a fee associated with depositing money with the kiosk.

Visitation Hours

All inmate visits are done through video. Each inmate is allowed one 30 minute visit per week. Appointments are scheduled using the website www.securustech.online. Visitors must first create an account and then get approved by jail staff. Visits can be scheduled Monday through Sunday from 8 am to 11 pm. If it is not possible for an individual to do a remote visit, they may use the computer terminal located in the Sheriff’s Office. Onsite visits are free, but may only be scheduled for Wednesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 1 pm to 4 pm.

To look up information about an inmate, the Oceana County Jail encourages individuals to use the VINE website at www.vinelink.com. The VINE website offers a search function that allows the individual to look up an inmate based on the state they are located in and their name, ID number, or case number. The individual is then directed to a webpage including all the matches for the search criteria. Upon expanding a selection, the inmates name, age, and record details will be made visible. The inmate’s case status, case number, and plea status are also shown. Lastly, the reporting agency and its address is included.

The deputies and corrections officers of the Sheriff’s Office work 24 hours, 7 days a week to serve and protect Oceana County. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) grants all persons access to government records; this includes information on the affairs of the government agencies and government workers. To file an FOIA request, email tbyard@oceana.mi.us. FOIA forms are available on the Oceana County website. The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office will issue a response within 5 business days. The fee associated with the FOIA request depends upon the labor costs, costs of copying and duplication, cost of computer discs, and cost to mail the record. Individuals are required to input their name, address, and contact information with each request. An FOIA request should have enough information so it is feasible for the clerk to find the appropriate records.
