Jackson County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Jackson County Jail is located in Jackson, Michigan and has two facilities. The Wesley Street Jail is a 200 bed facility that houses detainees, sentenced inmates, and Michigan Department of Corrections residents. It was most recently renovated in 2004. In 2003, a second direct supervision facility was built on Chanter Road. This facility has a rated capacity of 240. It was built to reduce fees for boarding local inmates in other county jails and to free up space at the Wesley Street jail for violent and felony offenders. Anthony Steward is the Wesley Street Jail Captain and Mike Coburn is the Chanter Road Jail Lieutenant.

How to Send Mail or Package

Personal mail to inmates is received and scanned by a third party processing service, then made available to inmates on tablets or kiosks. Letters and postcards should be addressed to:

Money may be added to inmates’ accounts at any time using the kiosks in the lobby of each jail or online through ExpressAccount. When depositing online, the correct state and county must be selected.

Visitation Hours

Inmates may receive one 20 minute visit at either county jail each week. Visits are free and must be scheduled 24 hours in advance (visitors may schedule at the jail or online). Face to face visits may be scheduled between 7am and 10am, 3pm and 4pm, and 7pm and 9pm. Video visits are also provided by SmartJailMail. Visitors must create an account online using their photo ID, then schedule and pay for visits through the website. Visitors should login to their accounts 15 minutes prior to the visit’s scheduled start time. Smart visits may be scheduled between 7:45am and 11:45am, 1pm and 3:45pm, and 5:30pm and 10:45pm.

Additional Jail Information

The 12th District Court Probation Department maintains a “most wanted” list using their Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages. Postings include the names, birthdates, and mugshots of offenders.

Jackson County Sheriff Information

Both the Wesley Street and Chanter Road correctional facilities are operated by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The current Sheriff is Gary Schuette and the Undersheriff is Chris Simpson.
