Newaygo County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Newaygo County Jail was originally founded in 1967 and had the ability to hold 36 inmates. However, it has since been expanded several times, and, currently, the capacity is 258 beds. The jail is open 24 hours a day. The Jail Administration Office is open Monday through Fridays from 8 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm. The Newaygo County Jail not only houses detainees from Newaygo County, but it also houses inmates for the West Michigan District of the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Mugshots are not available for arrested offenders.

How to Send Mail or Package

All incoming mail must be in the form of a 4×6 prepaid postcard. Incoming mail is subject to inspection for contraband, but will not be read by the staff unless there is suspicion of criminal violation. Legal mail shall remain confidential and be opened in the presence of the inmate. Correspondence between inmates at the Newaygo County Jail is prohibited. Mail that endangers the safety of the jail will not be delivered to the inmate. The quantity of inmate mail will be limited to avoid a safety or fire hazard. To send money to an inmate, family and friends can make deposits over the phone by calling (866) 422-6833, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Money can also be deposited online at www.expressaccount.com. The last option to deposit money is to visit the kiosk in the jail lobby.

Visitation Hours

The Newaygo County Jail offers both remote and onsite jail visits. Both off-site and onsite visits are available Monday through Sunday from 9 am to 11:40 am, 1 pm to 5:40 pm, and 7 pm to 8:40 pm. Onsite visitation is only free on Saturdays. The onsite visits are also conducted in the common area of the jail, therefore, it is imperative visitors supervise children during visits. Any behavior that is inappropriate or disruptive will result in the visit being terminated.

Additional Jail Information

The Newaygo County Jail utilizes the MCVNN system, which allows victims of crime to remain updated via phone or internet about the custody status of their offender. The jail also has programs for offenders to help better their outcomes. There is an educational program that allows inmates to obtain a high school diploma or equivalent. Chaplain services are available for inmates who wish to speak to a spiritual advisor or engage in Bible studies. Alcohol and Drug Abuse counseling is available in a one-on-one format. Lastly, medical and mental health services are available 24 hours a day on an emergency basis.
