Calhoun County Jail Information

The Calhoun County Correctional Facility is a direct supervision facility located in the City of Battle Creek. It was opened in 1994. The jail has a capacity of 630 and an average population of 275-325. The facility rents beds to other cities, counties, and the federal government. It has a staff of 120 and is responsible for the Court and Justice Center Security, as well.

How to Send Mail or Package

Since September 2023, all inmate mail is processed off-site and then made viewable by tablets provided for inmates. Mail should be addressed to:

Care packages for inmates may be purchased and sent through Access Securepak’s website.

There are several ways to send money to an inmate. Cash may be delivered in person. A money transfer may also be made through Western Union. Credit cards may be used to add funds to an inmate’s account by phone at: 866-345-1884. Funds may also be deposited online through the Access Corrections website.

Visitation Hours

Inmate video visitations may be made on site or remotely.The on site visiting terminals are free. Remote visitation costs $8.75 for a 25 minute visit. Visits must be scheduled 48 hours in advance through the ICSolutions website (for remote visits) or at the visitation registration station in the jail’s Visitation Lobby. On site visitations may be scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 10:30am and 12:30pm to 4:30pm. Remote visitations may be scheduled daily from 7:30am to 10:30am, 12:30pm to 4:30pm, and 7:30pm to 9pm. For questions about inmate visitation, call (269) 969-6313.

Calhoun County Sheriff Information

The county jail is operated by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. The executive staff of the office includes Sheriff Steven Hinkley, Undersheriff Timothy A. Hurt, and Chief Deputy David Tendziegloski. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 4pm.

Per Michigan law, FOIA requests may also be submitted verbally or in writing in person or by mail, email, or fax to any County office. Written requests should describe the records requested in detail. Fees will include any printing and/or mailing costs and labor costs billed in 15 minute increments.
