Inmates at the Oscoda County Jail are allowed to make commissary orders every day of the week. The jail provides inmates with food, shelter, and clothing. Maximum, medium, or minimum-level security classifications are designated to inmates upon admittance into the jail. The booking officer determines classification status based on the arrestee’s current charges and previous convictions. Inmates are served three meals a day, morning, noon, and evening. Jail operations function 24 hours, 7 days a week. Mugshots are not available for arrested offenders.

How to Send Mail or Package

All mail incoming or outgoing will be inspected for contraband. Mail sent to inmates should be in the form of a 5×7 prepaid postcard. Inmates have the option of purchasing mail supplies from the commissary. Mail from attorneys, courts, and government officials will be inspected in front of the inmate to confirm the sender or check for contraband. Mail that is rejected for security reasons will be discarded with an explanation as to why it was rejected. Money can be deposited in an inmate’s account at the kiosk available in the lobby of the jail 24/7. Money can also be deposited online or over the phone via debit/credit card.

Visitation Hours

To schedule a remote or in-person visit, contact the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office. Visits are 30 minutes each and are conducted 5 days a week. Visitation hours are 8:30 am to 4 pm. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, and no more than 2 weeks before the visit. Visitors and inmates are expected to abide by jail rules during the visit otherwise the visit will be terminated and visiting privileges will be suspended. Appropriate clothing must be worn during visits. Minors should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All visitors are required to show a valid state-issued ID prior to visitation.

The VINE website has the ability to look up an inmate based on their location, their name, ID number, or case number. Search results include a number of individuals who meet the search criteria stipulated. The results include the inmate’s name, age, and record details. Individuals can also view the inmate’s case status and case number.

Oscoda County Public Records Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is legislation that allows all citizens access to government records; this entitles citizens to information on the affairs of government institutions and the employees who work within them. FOIA requests can be submitted using the form available on the Oscoda County website or in another form of writing that includes the required information. The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office will issue a response to the FOIA request within 5 business days. If a request is denied, a reason will be given as to why it was denied, and there is an option to appeal the denial. The fee charged for the FOIA request will be determined by the cost to search for, examine, and separate information. Individuals will also bear a fee for transmitting the record and any materials necessary to do so. FOIA requests must include the individual’s name, address, and contact information.
