How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates at Gogebic County Jail may receive personal mail. Only postcards are allowed. Pictures on postcards will be allowed if the staff deems them appropriate. Postcards containing crayon, highlighter, markers, glitter, stickers, glue, tape, lipstick marks, perfume, or any other unknown substances are not allowed. Metered postage is preferred. If a stamp is used, the corner of the postcard containing the stamp will be cut off and disposed of.

Money orders may be sent to inmates through the mail in properly identified envelopes addressed to “Inmate Accounting.”

Visitation Hours

Male inmates at Gogebic County Jail may be visited on Sundays from 8am-11am and 12:30pm- 10pm. Female inmates may be visited Saturdays from 8am-11am and 12:30pm-4pm. All visits are conducted by video, but may be remote or onsite from the visitation stations in the lobby.
Onsite visits are free and last 20 minutes. Remote 20-minute visits cost $9.99.

To visit onsite or remotely, visitors must have an account with Securus Technologies. Visits should be scheduled on Securus’ website 24 hours in advance. Remote visits cancelled at least 24 hours in advance are eligible for a refund. Remote visits require an internet-enabled device with a webcam. An app must be downloaded to visit by smartphone or tablet. Questions concerning account creation or payment should be directed to Securus online or by calling 1-800-844-6591.

Gogebic County Sheriff Information

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office operates the jail. They provide primary law enforcement services to the county, as well as the Cities of Bessemer and Wakefield and the Gogebic Iron County Airport during flights. The office also provides court-ordered transportation for Gogebic County Community Health patients at various institutions in and out of state. The current Sheriff is Ross C. Gogebic County is located in western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is the Westernmost county in the state and one of only four Michigan counties in the Central Time Zone. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 14,380. The county seat is Bessemer and the largest city is Ironwood. The county has a toal area of 1,476 square miles, including 374 square miles of water.

Gogebic County Public Records Information

The public may request copies of records from any county office per the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). FOIA requests must be written and Gogebic County provides two FOIA Request Forms online. One can be filled out in a browser (preferred method) and the other printed and filled out. Records requested must be described in detail and requestors must provide their contact information and preferred delivery method (pick up copies, mail, email, fax).
