Crawford County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Crawford County Corrections Center is located in Grayling, Michigan. It has a rated capacity of 51 beds and houses pre-trial detainees and those sentenced to one year or less. Anyone arrested by any agency in Crawford County is housed in the jail, along with occasional inmates from other county, state, or federal agencies. These may include minimum to maximum security inmates, work release, and trustees.

Visitation Hours

Inmates may receive visits from immediate family (grandparents, parents, siblings, spouse, children, grandchildren, and in-laws, including step-family). Children under 15 are not counted as visitors. These visits are scheduled by the inmate’s last name. Those whose last name begins with A-I may have visitors Mondays and WEdnesdays from 6pm to 8:30pm. Those whose last name begins with J-Z may have visitors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8:30pm. Clergy may visit any weekday from 9am to 11am or 1pm to 4pm. Other special visits must be authorized by the Jail Commander.

Crawford County Sheriff Information

The Crawford County Jail is operated by the local Sheriff’s Office. The current Sherrif is Ryan Swope and the Undersheriff is Shawn Schnoor. The administrative office is open 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday. General and individual staff contact information is as follows:

Crawford County is located in Northern Lower Peninsula Michigan. It has a total area of 563 square miles, 7 of which is water. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 12,988. Grayling, the county seat and largest city, is the only incorporated community in the county.

Requests may be verbal or written and do not require any specific form, though the county provides a FOIA Requst Form online for the public’s convenience. Requests may be sumibtted in person or by mail, fax, or email. Requests that are faxed or emailed should include “FOIA” or “FOIA Request” on the cover page or in the subject line. Fees include costs of any printing and/or mailing, as well as labor billed in 15 minute increments.
