Eaton County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Eaton County Jail is a 374 bed correctional facility located in Charlotte, Michigan. It holds inmates including, pre-trial detainees, those serving misdemeanor and felony charges, and those awaiting transport to the Michigan Department of Corrections prisons. It also rents space to other counties as available. The jail’s health clinic is overseen by 2 nurses and 4 full-time and 2 part-time EMTs. A local doctor provides weekly services and a local dentist provides monthly services.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates at Eaton County Jail may receive white postcards that are no larger than 5×7” and have been sent with metered postage. They may also receive books and magazines purchased and shipped directly from booksellers. Mail should be addressed to:

Money orders made out to an inmate may also be sent through the mail in a plain white envelope. Friends and family may also add money to an inmate’s account in person or by phone or online. There is a kiosk in the Sheriff’s Office Lobby that accepts case or cards. Money may be added remotely by calling eXpressAccount at 1-866-422-6833 or going to their website.

Visitation Hours

All visits with inmates at Eaton County Jail are through video. These can take place on-site or remotely. All visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance using either the scheduler in the jail lobby or Securus Technologies’ website.

Onsite visits are 30 minutes long and free of charge. Inmates may have 1 per week between 9am and 10:30am or 1pm and 3pm. Three people may visit onsite and photo ID is required for all visitors 17 years of age or older.

Inmates are allowed up to 2 twenty-minute remote visits per day. These can be scheduled between 8am and 10pm. Offsite visits must be paid for when scheduled at a rate determined by Securus.

Eaton County Sheriff Information

The Eaton County Jail is operated by the local Sheriff’s Office, which is also responsible for county-wide law enforcement and provides contractual policing to Delta, Oneida, and Vermontville. The office employs 146 individuals and is open Monday through Friday from 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm. Tom Reich has been Sheriff since 2013 and the Undersheriff is Jeffery Cook. The Capitan of the Corrections Division is Ross Tyrell.

They do not require a specific form, but a FOIA Request Form is available online. Requests must provide the requestor’s contact information and a detailed description of the records requested. They may be submitted in person or by mail, email, or fax. Emails and faxes should include “FOIA” or “FOIA Request” in the subject line or cover page. Fees for requests include any printing and/or mailing costs and labor costs billed in 15 minute increments.
