Delta County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Delta County Correctional Facility is located in Escanaba, Michigan. It has a rated capacity of 156 inmates. Currently, it does not accept sentenced individuals from courts outside the county due to overcrowding. The jail is staffed by 22 full-time correction officers supervised by Lt. Jeff Vallier. Sgt. Jeff Hansen is also a supervisor at the jail.

Visitation Hours

Once a week, up to four guests may visit an inmate onsite at one time. The visit lasts 15 minutes. Visitors are seperated from inmates by glass and communication through a telephone. All visitors must be over the age of 18 (unless given prior approval by the Sheriff) and have valid photo ID. These visits can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 8am to 11:30am or 1pm to 3:50pm. Inmates may receive video visitations on the weekend, which is provided by securustech.net. Visit their website or contact the Correctional Facility for more information. Clergy may visit Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 11:30am.

Delta County Sheriff Information

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail.It currently employees 10 Road Patrol deputies, a Detective, and an undercover narcotics agent assigned to the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforecement Team. Edward Oswald is the current Sheriff and Phil Griebel is the Undersheriff. The administrative office is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.

According to the 2020 Census, the population is 36,903. The county seat and largest city is Escanaba, which is located on Little Bay de Noc. It is the third-largest city in the Upper Peninsula.

Delta County Public Records Information

Public records may be requested from any county office through the Freedom of Information Action (FOIA). These may be requested verbally or in writing and submitted in person or via mail, fax, or email. While no specific form is required, a FOIA Request Form is provided online and at the County Board of Commissioners’ Office for the public’s convenience. Requested records should be described with as much specificity as possible. Those submitted by fax or email should include “FOIA” or “FOIA Request” on the cover page or in the subject line. Fees for records include any printing and/or mailing costs and labor costs billed in 15 minute increments. Records requests may be submitted to the following:
