Dickinson County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Dickinson County Jail, located in Iron Mountain, Michigan, is part of the local Sheriff’s Office. It was remodeled and expanded in the spring of 1997 and has a capacity of 71, housing female and male inmates.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates may receive personal mail sent through the US Postal Service and books or magazines purchased through a publisher and sent directly to the jail. Personal mail cannot include greeting cards, stickers, perfume, lipstick, tape, crayon, ink stamps, glitter, newspaper clippings, mailing supplies, or photographs. Inmates are allowed up to 5 photographs, but these must be brought in within the first week of incarceration and afterward will be accepted only through email.

Inmates may also make phone calls between 7am and 10pm. These may be collect or made using commissary funds. Friends and family may also set up a Securus Technologies account, which allows for phone billing. The Site ID is 31047 and the inmate’s ID may be obtained by calling the Correctional Center. Emails are also available through Securus and inmates are allowed 7 per week.

To send money to an inmate, the public may use the Kiosk in the lobby, which accepts cash, debit, or credit cards. There is a fee to use the kiosk and an ID may be required. Money orders are accepted through the mail. Funds can also be added remotely using Access Corrections by either calling 1-866-394-0490 or going online to www.accesscorrections.com. Required information includes the inmate’s name, ID number, and location (county and state).

Visitation Hours

Inmate’s visitation lists may include 5 individuals. The list cannot be changed once it is completed. Inmates may have 2 visits per weekend. Visits last 30 minutes and are held on Saturdays and Sundays. Male inmates may be visited from 9am to 11:30am and 1pm to 3:30pm. Female inmates may be visited from 4pm to 5pm and 6pm to 7:30pm. Visits are limited to immediate family and 1 non-family member. If under 18-years-old, the visitor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Appointments must be made prior to the weekend schedule and photo ID is required at the time of the visit.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office operates the local jail, in addition to serving 27,427 citizens in a 775 square mile area. The current Sheriff is Scott Rutter and the Undersheriff is Aaron Rochon.

Dickinson County is located in the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Formed in 1891, it is Michigan’s newest county. It is also only one of two landlocked counties in the state. As of the 2020 Census, its population was 25,947. The county seat and largest city is Iron Mountain, home to one of the largest artificial ski jumps in the world.

Dickenson County Public Records Information

To request records, provide a detailed account of the record being requested and the requester’s name, phone number, and mailing address. Requests may be submitted in person or by mail or fax. Fees include any associated copying and/or mailing costs and labor costs billed in fifteen minute increments.
