Wayne County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Wayne County Jail consists of three separate divisions. Jail Division I houses male and female inmates who are determined to require residential mental health or medical services. Law library and recreation services are provided to all inmates. Jail Division I houses inmates who require close monitoring and segregation. Inmates classified as low risk and medium are placed in the general population and are double bunked. Jail Division II is a linear supervision type jail comprising housing units with eight beds each. Jail Division II increased the capacity of the jail by 770 beds. Jail Division III is a direct supervision type facility with a capacity of 896 beds. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office offers the public the ability to lookup offenders currently incarcerated at its jail, however, it does not provide mugshots of these offenders.

How to Send Mail or Package

Incoming mail must be sent via USPS and must be in the form of a 5×7 plain, prepaid postcard. Each piece of mail should have the sender’s name and a return address. Mail cannot contain any banned substances, or it will be forwarded back to the sender. Books and magazines may be sent to inmates so long as they come directly from the publisher. To send money to an inmate, family and friends may use the platform at www.touchpayonline.com, or they can call Touchpay directly at (866)204-1603. When using Touchpay be ready to provide the Wayne County facility number(#248211) and the inmate’s 10 digit booking number.

Visitation Hours

The visitation hours for all three jail divisions are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 10:30 am, 1 pm to 2:30 pm, and 6 pm to 9 pm. Professional visits are 7 days a week. Inmate’s may have one 30 minute visit per week. Individuals over the age of 17 must present a State-issued ID or driver’s license, or a Federal-Issued military ID card or passport. Minors must be accompanied by an authorized adult. Visitors who are disruptive or pose a threat to the security of the facility will be removed and will be permanently removed from the visiting list. Visitors will be checked for contraband prior to their visit.

Additional Jail Information

The Wayne County Sheriff offers an Inmate Inquiry service that provides information about inmates currently being held at their facility. Users can look up an inmate using their name, subject number, booking number, or booking date. Each inmate detail page provides the inmate’s demographic information and booking history. The facility they are being housed in is displayed. The bond number, type and amount is also shown. The page lists the charges the inmate is being held for, the date they occurred, the docket number, the court’s disposition, and the crime class for each charge. A chronology of the inmate’s court dates is also included.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office operates and maintains its own jail for pretrial detainees and sentenced offenders. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office operates a jail dashboard that is updated daily to display infographics about the jail’s current population. This includes a graphic displaying the number of inmates housed in the jail and on a tether for a specific day. The average, current, highest, and lowest inmate totals are also posted.

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is legislation that gives citizens the right to request public records on the affairs of the government. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office offers the ability to submit FOIA requests online using their online form. Requesters are required to provide their name, address, phone, and email, as well as the type of document they are requesting. There is also the option to mail or fax the request to the OFIA Officer. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office will offer a response to the request within 5 business days. A fee will be charged depending on the labor costs for gathering and transmitting the records.
