Alger County is in the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is the second-largest Michigan county by area, including the waters of Lake Superior. According to the 2020 Census, the population is 8,842. Munising is the county seat.

Alger County Public Records Information

Public records may be requested from Alger County through the Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Written requests that describe the desired records in as much detail as possible may be submitted in person or by mail, email, or fax. A pdf of the FOIA Request Form is available online and at the County Clerk’s Office for the public’s convenience. Verbal requests will be documented by the County in a FOIA Request Form. If the request is made by fax or email, it should include “FOIA” or “FOIA Request” on the cover page or in the subject line. Charges for copies of records include any printing and/or mailing costs and associated labor costs billed in 15 minute increments. Written requests may be submitted to:
