The Muskegon County Jail opened in 2015. It accommodates 542 inmates and operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. There are 4 shift supervisors and 50 corrections officers under the employ of the jail. The jail has onsite medical offices, laundry and a kitchen that yields over 200,000 meals per year. The jail offers an assortment of programs that most inmates are eligible to take including GED, Catholic services, Alcoholics Anonymous, Yoga, and Life Skills. The Muskegon County Jail has an inmate lookup function in which mugshots are available for arrested offenders.

How to Send Mail or Package

Pre-stamped postcards are the only acceptable form of written communication at the Muskegon County Jail. Postcards with any inappropriate materials or any other forms of written communication will be forwarded back to the sender. Mail is received at the jail Monday through Fridays. Visitation Hours

To schedule a remote or in-person visit, one must visit the scheduling page on the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office webpage. Onsite visits are 25 minutes maximum and are conducted 5 days a week. The visitation hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 10:55 am and 1 pm to 3:55 pm. Visits are by appointment and must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Violation of visitation rules will result in the visit being terminated and suspension of visitation privileges. Clothing worn during visits must abide by the jail dress code.

The Muskegon Central Dispatch makes available its inmate roster. Alongside mugshots are the primary charges the arrestee is facing as well as the booking agency and holding agency. A profile of the arrestee’s identifying information is also included (age, weight, gender, height, race). Lastly, the amount of the individual’s bond is also listed.

Muskegon County Public Records Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) permits all citizens access to records of government affairs; this includes information on the affairs of public officials. Any person other than an incarcerated felon is entitled to these records. A copy of the FOIA form can be obtained online on the Muskegon County Sheriff’s website. The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office will issue a response to the FOIA request within 5 business days. A fee will be charged in relation to FOIA requests. The amount of the fee depends upon labor costs, material costs, and mailing costs.
FOIA requests must include the individual’s name, address, and contact information. The incident in question must be described accurately, so the administrator is able to locate its records.
