How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates are allowed to receive mail via USPS from friends and family. All incoming mail must be in the form of a postcard, which can be no larger than 5×7, and cannot contain any banned substances. Postcards must have a return address and the sender’s full name. Inmates can also receive pictures in the mail. There is a limit of two 3×5 pictures per inmate. All photos sent to the jail must be stamped and include the sender’s full name and return address. The public can deposit funds to inmate accounts using either the kiosk located in the lobby of the facility, or can do so online with credit/debit card.

Visitation Hours

Inmates are allowed two 30 minute visits per week. Manistee County visitation hours take place Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 11:00 am, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Visiting hours for Saturday and Sunday are 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Virtual visits are possible and take place 8 am to 10 pm Monday through Sunday. All visitors must have a valid government issued ID to confirm their identity.

Additional Jail Information

Inmates are provided educational courses while housed including general education studies that help them obtain a GED. Substance abuse counseling is available for inmates so as to help them address addiction while incarcerated. Medical and mental health services are provided in accordance with state and federal standards. Access to chaplains and clergy is permitted to offer inmates spiritual guidance. Qualifying inmates can enroll in sentence reduction programs.

Manistee County Public Records Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) grants the right to all persons to access public records of government entities; this includes information on the affairs of the government and government officials. FOIA request can be filed with the Records Division and a form is available online. The request must contain the name and address of the requester as well as details about the records being requested. The Sheriff’s Office will respond to FOIA requests within 5 business days. A fee may be assessed for labor and copywriting, but not for the search or review of records.
