Grand Traverse County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Grand Traverse County Jail is located in Traverse City, Michigan. In addition to basic correctional functions, the staff specialize in Court Services, providing baliffs and security to all County Courts. They also transport sentenced offenders to the Michigan Department of Corrections. The jail’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.

The Grand Traverse County Jail hosts its roster on Inmate Inquiry. Specific inmates may be searched by name, subject or booking number, and/or booking dates. The Grand Traverse facility may be searched to browse the entire roster. Information available includes inmates’ names, date of birth, docket number, bond and bail amounts, and mugshot.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates at Grand Traverse County Jail may receive plain white 5×7” postcards with content typed or written in ink and mailed using metered postage. No other mail may be sent to inmates. Postcards should be addressed to:

One care package per week may be sent to inmates through ExpressAccount. The Sheriff’s Office website includes a list of eligible items and their cost. Packages may be ordered online or by phone at 1-866-6833. ExpressAccount accepts MasterCard, Visa, and American Express and charges transaction fees. Orders must be received by 11:59pm Tuesday for Thursday delivery.

Funds may be deposited into inmates’ accounts in several ways. The public may deposit funds at the kiosk in the Sheriff’s Office lobby, which accepts cash and credit/debit cards. Money may also be deposited online through ExpressAccount. Both the kiosk and ExpressAccount charge transaction fees. Money orders may also be used to add funds to an inmates’ account. These should be made payable to Grand Traverse County Jail and include the inmate’s full name on the payment. Money orders may be delivered in person to the jail lobby window between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday or mailed to the address above.

Visitation Hours

Visits to inmates at the county jail are operated by Combined Public Communications (CPC). Both onsite and remote visits should be scheduled through the CPC website. To schedule visits, you must create an InmateSales account, enter your personal information, purchase minutes, and then schedule your visit. First time visitors must request access and upload a picture of their photo ID. Remote visits can be held from any internet-capable device with a webcam. Chrome browser is preferred. Grand Traverse County Sheriff Information

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail. Thomas J. Bensley has been the Sheriff since 2009. The Corrections Division of the office includes a Captain/Jail Administrator, an Administrative Sergeant, 6 Sergeants, and 34 Corrections Officers. The office is open 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Requests should include a detailed description of the records requested, contact information of the person making the request, and specific preferred delivery method.
