The Otsego County Jail currently has a 34 bed capacity. It was renovated in the 1980s to accommodate the growing population of Otsego County. The jail has 10 corrections officers under its employ, and houses both male and female inmates. While the jail does maintain an inmate roster, there are no mugshots available for arrested offenders. To deal with overcrowding, the jail may reduce the sentence of non-violent offenders and only accept arrestees who have committed certain types of offenses.

How to Send Mail or Package

Mail sent to the Otsego County Jail is subject to inspection for contraband.Any mail containing contraband will be destroyed or placed in the inmate’s property. Mail must be sent via USPS and be in the form of a 5×7 plain white, prepaid postcard. Legal mail (mail from attorneys, courts, and government officials) will be opened and checked in the presence of the inmate it has been sent to. Mail that is rejected for security reasons will be sent back to the sender with an explanation as to why the mail was rejected. Money can be deposited in an inmate’s account at the kiosk available in the lobby of the jail 24/7. Funds can also be deposited online or over the phone using a debit/credit card.

Visitation Hours

The hours for visitation are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 am to 9:30 pm. Each inmate may have one hour long visit or two 30 minutes visits per week. Visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. A photo ID is required for all visitors over the age of 16. Visitors must obey prison rules. This consists of wearing proper attire and refraining from any behavior that might be considered abusive, assaulting, or profane.

Indigent inmates are allowed several garments including 3 bras, 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of underwear, and 3 t-shirts. The Otsego County Jail makes several programs available to offenders while they are incarcerated. These programs include AA/NA meetings, community service, GED services, group counseling, religious counseling, and the trustee program.

Otsego County Public Records Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) permits all individuals (except those who are incarcerated) access to government records; this includes information on the affairs of the public agencies and government employees. Requests may be made using the FOIA form, an alternative form of writing, or through verbal request. The request must contain adequate information so the County is able to locate the appropriate records. Written requests can be submitted in-person or through the mail to the administrative office. Requests may also be faxed or emailed to the County Office.
