The Alonca County Jail is a detention center operated by the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office. It has a capacity of 31 beds and is rated medium security. The jail serves as a holding facility for short-term offenders serving sentences or awaiting trial.

An inmate roster is hosted online by JailTracker. Inmates may be searched by first or last name and results include booking and release dates. Mugshots of arrested offenders do not appear to be available.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates may receive personal mail, though not from other inmates. All mail must be sent through the United States Postal Service. Letters may not contain glitter, stickers, unknown odors or substances, stamps, envelopes, or extra paper. They must be written in pencil or pen (blue or black ink) or typed. Mail should be addressed as follows:

Money may be sent to an inmate in several ways. Money orders may be mailed to the inmate. The general public can deposit funds using a kiosk machine in the lobby, which accepts cash, debit cards, and credit cards. Funds may also be added to inmate’s commissary accounts through Smart Deposit, which requires creating an account online.

Visitation Hours

Inmates may receive two 15 minute visits per day. Appointments are taken by phone at (989) 724-9570 or in person after 8am the day of the visit. Inmates whose last names begin with the letters A through L can receive visits on Sunday from 12:30pm-3:30pm and Thursday from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Inmates whose last name begins with the letters M through Z can receive visits on Wednesday from 5:30pm-7:30pm and Saturday from 12:30pm-3:30pm. Visitors must be 18 years or older and are subject to search.

Alcona County Public Records Information

Public records can be obtained by submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request for Public Records form to Alcona County. The FOIA ensures citizens can access government agency’s records that are not otherwise publicly available.

The request form is available for pdf download and asks that the record requested be described as specifically as possible. Once completed, it may be submitted in person or by mail, fax, or email. Faxed and emailed requests should include the subject line “FOIA” or “FOIA Request.” A response will be provided within 5 business days.

If the request is granted, the County will ask payment be made for the allowable fees associated with records requests. The cost of the record includes a copying fee that will not exceed $ .10 per page, a labor cost charged in 15-minute increments at a rate of $48.90 per hour, and any associated mailing costs. The first $20 of fees may be waived if the requester receives public assistance, can demonstrate an inability to pay due to indigence, or is a nonprofit that advocates for developmentally disabled or mentally ill individuals.
