How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates may receive personal mail. All incoming mail must include the sender’s name and return address. Packages are rarely accepted and cannot contain items on the commissary list. Residents should contact the midnight shift Sergeant for specific information about packages. Care packages up to $50 may be purchased online and sent directly from ExpressAccount.

Funds may be deposited into inmates’ accounts using ExpressAccount or through the Canteen Services kiosk in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office, which is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The kiosk charges a service fee and cannot make change. Checks, money orders, and cash are also accepted by mail.

Visitation Hours

Inmates are allotted video visitations depending on their classification levels. Low and medium classification residents may have 2 free 30 minute visits per week and purchase additional visits. High classification residents are allowed one free visit per week. Maximum classification residents are not allowed visits. Classification levels are evaluated every month. Onsite visiting hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 10am and 1pm to 3pm. Remote video visits may be scheduled between 9am and 11pm. All visitors must be at least 12 years of age and those from 12-16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visitors must have an account with GTL/Viapath, which can be established online or at the kiosk in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. The kiosk accepts cash, Mastercard, and Visa.

The Kalamazoo Office of the Sheriff announces cold cases on its website. These provide the victim’s name, description, photograph, last known location, and a summary of the incident.

The county jail is operated by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office. The current Sheriff is Richard C. Fuller III and the Undersheriff is James Vandyken. The office is divided into Operations, Support, and Jail Divisions. Each is overseen by a Capitan supported by Lieutenants and Administrators, as well as several Sergeants.
