Emmet County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Emmet County Jail is located in Petoskey, Michigan. It has a capacity of 103 and holds male and female sentenced and non-sentenced inmates committed to the custody of the local Sheriff. The staff includes a Jail Administrator, 4 sergeants, 13 correctional officers, and other support staff. Brenda K. Ford is the current Jail Administrator. The administrative office is open from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.

Information about current inmates is provided by VINE, the Michigan Crime Notification Network. The public may check the custody status of inmates in Michigan county jails at VINE’s website. Information available includes inmates’ demographic data, charges, location, booking and release dates. Mugshots are sometimes, but not always, available.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates at the Eaton Correctional Facility may receive personal postcards and letters. Letters and envelopes may not be decorated (i.e. with lipstick, perfume, glitter, stickers, etc). Address personal mail as follows:

Inmates may also receive white underwear, socks, sports bras, and t-shirts if ordered and mailed directly to them from Amazon or Walmart. Commissary items may be ordered and shipped from mycarepack.com or accesscatalog.com. Newspapers may be delivered directly from the publisher and books or magazines may be mailed from approved local bookshops or internet vendors. These include: Mclean and Eakin Booksellvers, Between the Covers, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Schuler Books, and Walmart. No hardcover books are accepted.
Money may be deposited into an inmate’s account using the kiosk in the Sheriff’s Office lobby, online at acesscorrections.com, or by calling Access Corrections at 866-345-1884. Each option charges a service fee based on the deposit amount.

Visitation Hours

Visits to inmates are conducted by video onsite or remotely. To obtain the visitation schedule and schedule visits, either remote or onsite, friends and family should visit the Securus Video Connect website.

Emmet County Sheriff Information

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail and has offices in three county locations. The current Sherrif is Peter A. Wallin. Matt Lierstein was appointed Undersheriff in 2022. Their offices are open from Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.

Emmet County Public Records Information

Public records may be requested from any Emmet County office, in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Accident reports should be requested from the Sheriff’s Office and cost $2. All other FOIA requests are handled by the Office of Civil Counsel. FOIA requests may be made verbally, in person, or by mail, email, or fax. A request form is provided online for the public’s convenience. Any records requests submitted by fax or email should include “FOIA” or “FOIA Request” on the cover page or in the subject line. The cost of records includes any printing and/or mailing fees and labor costs calculated in 15 minute increments. Submit requests to the following:
